Ypso-Ionic® Wins the 2026 BioTech Breakthrough Award for Life Sciences Analytics Solution of the Year

Beyond the chromatogram. Now award-winning.

Ypso-Facto today announced it is the recipient of “Life Sciences Analytics Solution of the Year” in the sixth annual BioTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by BioTech Breakthrough, a leading independent market intelligence organization that evaluates and recognizes standout life sciences and biotechnology companies, products and services around the globe.

Ypso-Ionic is a mechanistic modelling and simulation software tool for chromatography process development in biologics downstream processing. It simulates chromatographic processes and helps to reach optimal conditions with fewer experiments than traditional one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) or design of experiments (DoE) approaches. It combines a structured data management interface with a physics-based simulation engine, and also includes a dedicated buffer preparation tool.

Predictive Analytics for Chromatography from Ypso-Facto delivers predictive analytics that reveal how species are eluting at the outlet of a chromatography process. Ionic’s mechanistic predictive analytics are derived from a model that describes the underlying physicochemical behavior of every species, allowing it to predict the full composition of the outlet stream over time, resolving what a detector trace cannot.

Scientists receive a virtual analytical view inside the column. Ionic predicts the concentration of the target and of individual impurities across the chromatogram, so co-eluting species can be deconvolved and the impurity distribution in the collected pool anticipated for a given cut, before the fraction is analyzed. Teams can see how that distribution shifts as conditions change, and choose a collection strategy on the basis of predicted purity and yield.

When measured data and model prediction disagree in a structured, systematic way, that discrepancy signals a component the model does not yet account for. Ionic turns a data-versus-model mismatch into an analytical lead, pointing to an unknown or unexpected species that would otherwise pass unnoticed. A rigorous, unambiguous data format keeps experimental information consistent and machine-usable across all stakeholders. Because the models are fully mechanistic, every prediction is transparent and auditable.

“We believe that predictive analytics in chromatography is a growing enabler in biopharma and analytical chemistry, combining statistical, mechanistic, and AI-based methods to forecast chromatographic performance, optimize processes, and reduce experimental workload. Ypso-Facto Ionic was born out of this,” said Edouard Nicoud, co-CEO of Ypso-Facto. “Thank you to BioTech Breakthrough for this incredible award. We are proud to tackle some of the toughest challenges in the development of (bio) pharmaceutical processes by combining science, software development, and human insight. We aim to fundamentally improve the way (bio)pharmaceutical processes are developed, scaled, and transferred to manufacturing.”

The life sciences and biotechnology sector is rapidly redefining how diseases are discovered, diagnosed and treated, transforming one of the world's most critical industries. From genomics and gene editing to AI-powered drug discovery, cell and gene therapies, and advanced bioprocessing, biotechnology is delivering faster breakthroughs, more personalized care and better outcomes for patients around the world.

The mission of the annual BioTech Breakthrough Awards program is to recognize the innovators transforming the global biotechnology and life sciences landscape with breakthrough technology. The program conducts a comprehensive analysis of the companies redefining how therapies are researched, developed, manufactured and delivered. From AI-driven drug discovery platforms and precision medicine to synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and next-generation diagnostics and biomanufacturing, these innovations are enabling life sciences organizations to accelerate research, reduce development costs, bring life-changing treatments to market faster, and shape the future of human health.

“Ypso-Ionic provides the predictive analytics needed to see inside the purified product. A chromatogram from a physical detector shows a signal, not a composition. Co-eluting species hide inside a single UV peak. Impurity levels in the collected fraction are inferred indirectly and often confirmed only by additional analytics, late and at cost,” said Bryan Vaughn, Managing Director, BioTech Breakthrough. “Ionic makes the composition of a purified product visible before it is measured, giving scientists earlier, interpretable and defensible insight into what they have actually purified. We’re excited to recognize Ypso-Facto with ‘Life Sciences Analytics Solution of the Year.’”
