Talk: "Towards Greener TIDES Production using Mechanistic Modeling"
Abstract
The growing demand for TIDES therapeutics calls for innovative approaches to enhance the sustainability of their manufacturing. This work explores the use of mechanistic modelling to support the development of greener processes.
In Part 1, we focus on solid-phase peptide synthesis. We demonstrate that transitioning from traditional batch operations to percolation-based processes significantly reduces solvent consumption during wash operations, contributing to a more environmentally sustainable production strategy.
In Part 2, we investigate purification of oligonuclotide by ion exchange chromatography [2,3]. Through process simulation, we enable numerical screening of operating conditions to identify ecologically favourable process configurations based on defined sustainability metrics. We further explore the impact of shifting from batch to continuous chromatographic processes, revealing how such a transition can influence overall process performance and sustainability outcomes.
Together, these case studies illustrate the power of mechanistic modelling as a tool to guide greener process development in oligonucleotide manufacturing.
