Abstract

The “Industry 4.0“movement and the continuously more stringent quality requirements are leading industries to always collect more data on processes. On the other hand, some inherently agile factories handling different products in a short amount of time (e.g., pharmaceutic and CDMO industries) or processes in their early stage of development generate significantly less data.

Therefore, there is a need for tools to  (i) assist processes development at all stages of their lifecycle and allow their fast assessment based on the currently available data and additional apPROXIMAtions (e.g., to estimate factory production, waste generation, energy consumption, production cost…) (ii) create PROXIMity between all people involved in the process development (laboratory, factory, management…). These requirements are met by the novel methodology we developed and used to build the software YPSO-PROXIMA.

This new methodology application is illustrated on the real case of a krill oil production factory of Aker BioMarine. From all the available composition, production and economic data from laboratories and production sites worldwide, a factory model – a.k.a. digital twin – allowing the reproduction of these data is developed. This digital twin is used to calculate mass balances on all factory equipment (extractors, centrifugations, distillation columns…), providing a consolidated overview of all material streams in the factory and provides new insights about raw materials consumption. Based on these rational mass balances, an economical assessment of the factory is performed and KPI such as cost prices for all products are automatically calculated.

YPSO-PROXIMA is now advantageously integrated in the factory workflow to estimate the process KPI based on the most recent production information, and fully embraces the Industry 4.0 paradigm.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our booth for our first face to face conference of 2022! Discover the programme and register here
